TWO Melbourne university students have joined famed U2 frontman Bono and Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett by winning an MTV Video Music award.

Daniel Adams and 2004 Young Australian of the Year recipient Hugh Evans will collect the Free Your Mind award at the 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards next month.

The duo created and successfully staged Australia's first Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne last year, luring a bill of extraordinary talent including Bono and Eddie Vedder of Grammy award-winning US rock group Pearl Jam.

Their efforts are being recognised by MTV's global award, which celebrates organisations or individuals working towards a world free from social injustice.

"We are a bit humbled by it all," Mr Evans said.
