NEWS Bono's charity goes local
07/12/2006
MAKE Poverty History campaigners are planning to launch U2 lead singer Bono's charity retail scheme in Australia in the coming year.
Concert organiser Hugh Evans is in discussions with Australian retailers about a local version of the (Product)Red brand founded by the U2 singer.
As the campaign to end Third World poverty continues, supporters can relive the concert last month that launched the movement in Australia with a DVD. And Saturday's Herald Sunwill bring it to you free. For an exclusive preview of the DVD, log on to our special report.
The cream of Australia's music industry, along with U2's Bono and The Edge and Pearl Jam, is featured in two hours of performance and behind-the-scenes footage.
Half of the profits from the sale of brand name (Product)Red goods are donated to the Global Fund helping women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The US and UK products include Armani sunglasses, Converse sneakers, Apple iPods, and American Express credit cards.
You can collect a copy of the exclusive DVD free on Saturday from newsagents across Victoria when you buy your Herald Sun.
DVD stocks are limited and there will not be an opportunity to order the DVD when newsagents run out.
